James Jean

I am looking at his work as I like the way that he records information. I could use this aswell or instead of taking photographs. Not only does this way record what the person physically looks like but it also gives a sence of how the artist was feeling at the time or how they felt about the situation.
In a way more information is recorded by sketching rather than photography.
I like the fact that this drawing is simple with no added colour. It is not needed unlike the rest as there are no layers to this sketch. This meens that it is easy to understand as it is.
I also love how the artist has drawn the figure and then on the left has zoomed into what he is doing. To me this composition is unusual and this is what makes it interesting. It remindes me of slides to a film.

I find it pleasing to look at as the artist has incorporated different colours to show the different layers of drawings. This helps to identify the different events going on in the image. Without the colours it would look like scribbles.
I like how James Jean has used lots of red here because it draws the eye there first and it makes you think about what the artist is trying to say. It looks like an injury as if the red is symbolising blood.
The person on the left looks as if he has moved possition by the way that James Jean has layerd the two men but they are clearly different people. Perhaps he has two heads? I personally like how the picture here overlaps onto the next page. To me this suggests that maybe there is some kind of a relationship between them both.
I love the fact that the women has a zebra face. It gives a quirkyness to the picture. I find it interesting how James Jean has taken the zebra and has made a mask for her and has used the same print in blue over the picture. It looks abstract aswell as being surreal. I think that this picture is trying to show different angles and aspects of the same girl.

This sketch is so detailed and what I like about it is that not everything is layed out for the viewers and that it takes time to notice what is in the picture. Each time you come back to it you may notice something new. This image is extremely complicated and looks fantastical. It remindes me of a dream or perhaps what heaven or hell would look like.
